Me and my shadow took two fine dogs on a glorious hike.
Paths are dotted with benches which have been donated in memory of people who have left us. Kind souls decorated them all with boughs and bows.
The river’s icy beauty.
These ghostly fissures in the ice were the reason I kept the dogs up on the bank with me.
I stalked a group of goldeneyes who bobbed and dove as if oblivious to the chill of either wind or water. It wasn’t until I transferred photos to my computer that I realized I’d captured this one in his running take-off . . .
. . . and away he goes!
The heron, on the other hand, hunched his feather coat against the chill.
I heard this little belted kingfisher chittering about for several minutes before he settled a few feet from me atop a dry stalk just above the heron.
A day spent chasing balls of wrapping paper and following the sun around the house, napping in puddles of warm light, just exhausts a cat.
We bundled up for one last windy walk at day’s end to see the sun set over the Beartooth Mountains.

Love this more than words can say. Also loved the phone call to you in Montana whilst perched on the front stairs at my sister’s holiday house by the sea and sipping white wine. Looking forward to seeing what you and I do with 2014.
