About

I’m a chef, a cook, a teacher, a mother, a biker, a tentative photographer, and a hopeful writer.

Food is a narrative.  Whether you love cooking or dread it, if you cook from recipes or from memory, how we feed ourselves tells a story.  While I’m a pastry chef by day, I cook at home for one every night, save for when I have guests, which is as often as possible. Here are some of my stories.  While many have a teacherly bent, I try to write for people who love to read as much as they love to eat.  And a good writer is there to hold your hand. I hope to be that for you. Because I believe everyone can cook. And every plate holds a story. Here is how it all began . . .

Great blog! I look forward to every word!
(Mexican avocados? They are on the same continent, anyway. I’ve got to go look for some.)

    • Thanks for the catch! Yes, I saw “same continent” as redeeming, too.

      • I’m learning how to blog, haven’t quite figured it out.
Have you chosen your 6 recipe testers? Did I miss out?
I am still interested in that. Maryjane Czar. You have a nice day.

      • It took me a while, too, Maryjane. Stick with it because once you get past the learning curve, it really is amazingly easy. And fun.

No, I haven’t chosen recipe testers yet. Thanks for asking. Keep an eye on the blog and you’ll see the announcement.

  2. Oh I’m so excited for you! Check your blog address on Food52…it seems to be wrong

    • Well thank heaven you can proofread better than I can type! It’s in its infancy, but I’m having wonderful time building it up. This was a big 2012 goal. Thank you so much, Pat, and again, very very happy birthday!

Hi, I’m back…just wanted to let you know how I love reading your blog; stories, photos, recipes and your instruction “tips”. Love yeast dough baking so I especially enjoy your bread baking, it is certainly taking me out of the regular “loaf routine” I’ve been in for some time. 🙂

  6. I just found your blog and like me you are new to this sport. Your blog is amazing! I could not stop reading all your entries. Congratulations on a great blog! ( I know so little I couldn’t figure out where to subscribe to it.)

  7. Hi! Thanks so much for stopping by my blog and for the follow! I hope you will find some recipes that you love. You’ve got a great blog and some really good recipes – I’ll be back. Have a great day!

I am thrilled about finding your blog! Don’t know why it took me so long. The lay out and the photography is brilliant, and I have no doubt about the food as I have been a long time fan of yours.

    Cynthia,
After a delicious teaser, an intriguing demonstration, and a wonderful chance meeting; I talked my husband into buying a pasta maker (the last one at The Copper Colander) and I am using tomorrow!

    Thanks for the push!

    Hi there!

My name is Sue, and found your recipe blog today thru WordPress – it captured my interest!

I’m from SlimKicker.com (a diet/fitness app). We’re in the middle of creating a fitness armband (like FitBit) that tracks your calories burned and steps walked. We hope to release it by January 2013, but are looking for diet/fitness bloggers who would be interested in receiving one for free to review (positively or negatively) when it’s released.

Our site might be of interest to your readers too. It turns your diet/fitness goals into a level up RPG game, where you get points for tracking healthy foods, working out, and completing challenges. Is there anyway you can mention it in 1 of your next blog posts?

If you’re interested, you can email me thru email: sue (at) slimkicker.com. Also, you should probably not publish this comment since I just couldn’t find your email address =)

    Best,
    Sue

I sat here trying to think of what to say, your words are beautiful and your food is gorgeous. I am so glad that I get to see that. This is a wonderful place! Also you are a truly inspiring person! But I have always thought that.

    • Amazingly, I was just thinking of you the other day. It is wonderful to hear from you, and I thank you deeply for your kind words. We badly need to get together for coffee very soon, so please, please give me a call!
